Applying for a Grant Through Groundswell

When creating your account, you’ll be asked to choose one of the following options:

  • Representative of a charitable organization
  • Individual or for-profit

Use the questions below to decide which option is right for you.

Are you applying on behalf of a registered nonprofit or charitable organization?

This may include a nonprofit, school, university, hospital, house of worship, or foundation.

No

Choose Individual or for-profit.

Yes

Continue to the next question.

Are you authorized to apply for grants or manage grant applications on behalf of the organization?

Yes

Choose Representative of a charitable organization.

No or not sure

Choose Individual or for-profit. You should not claim an organization unless it has authorized you to apply for grants on its behalf.

Who is considered an authorized representative?

An authorized representative is someone who has permission to apply for grants and manage applications on behalf of the organization.

This may include:

  • An Executive Director, CEO, or other organizational leader
  • Development, advancement, or grants staff
  • Finance, operations, human resources, or administrative staff
  • School or university administrators
  • Foundation or development office staff
  • Board members
  • Other employees authorized to submit grant applications
  • Consultants with written authorization from the organization

Who is usually not considered an authorized representative?

You should generally choose Individual or for-profit if you are:

  • A student
  • A teacher without authorization to manage grants
  • A hospital employee applying independently of hospital administration
  • A volunteer without authorization
  • A donor, community member, program participant, or beneficiary
  • A consultant without written authorization
  • A member of an informal group or organization that is not a registered charity

Working, studying, volunteering, or receiving services at an organization does not automatically mean you are authorized to represent it.

Looking for donor information instead?

If you’re trying to view donation details, donor information, or donation history for your organization, this is not the account you need.

A representative of a charitable organization account is only used to apply for and manage grant applications tied to a specific company's grantmaking program. It does not provide access to donor information or employee donations made through Groundswell.

If you’re looking for information about donations your organization has received through Groundswell, please contact Chariot Support (support@givechariot.com) to request access to your organization’s Chariot account.
