Individual or for-profit

Choose Individual or for-profit. You should not claim an organization unless it has authorized you to apply for grants on its behalf.

Who is considered an authorized representative?

An authorized representative is someone who has permission to apply for grants and manage applications on behalf of the organization.

This may include:

An Executive Director, CEO, or other organizational leader
Development, advancement, or grants staff
Finance, operations, human resources, or administrative staff
School or university administrators
Foundation or development office staff
Board members
Other employees authorized to submit grant applications
Consultants with written authorization from the organization

Who is usually not considered an authorized representative?

You should generally choose Individual or for-profit if you are:

A student
A teacher without authorization to manage grants
A hospital employee applying independently of hospital administration
A volunteer without authorization
A donor, community member, program participant, or beneficiary
A consultant without written authorization
A member of an informal group or organization that is not a registered charity

Working, studying, volunteering, or receiving services at an organization does not automatically mean you are authorized to represent it.
