How to: Make a One-Time Donation in Groundswell

Making a donation in Groundswell only takes a few minutes! Follow the steps below to support your favorite nonprofit using your donation credits, personal funds, or both.

Step 1: Find the charity you’d like to support

Use the search bar at the top of the page to search by:

Charity name
EIN (Tax ID)
Charity ID

Once you’ve found the organization, click Donate on the charity’s profile.

Step 2: Choose

Select One-Time Donation to begin your gift.

Step 3: Enter your donation amount

Choose one of the suggested donation amounts or enter a custom amount.

If you have Donation Credits available, you can use those instead of (or along with) your own funds.

Step 4: (Optional) Adjust your company match

If your employer offers donation matching, Groundswell will automatically calculate your eligible match.

If you’d like to change the match amount:

Click the ✏️ pencil icon
Enter the amount you’d like your company to match
Enter $0 if you don’t want to use your available match for this donation

Note: Company matches follow your employer’s giving program rules and may be distributed separately from your original donation.

Step 5: Continue to Checkout

Click Go to Checkout.

Step 6: Choose your payment method

Select how you’d like to fund your donation.

Using a debit or credit card?

If this is your first time using a card, you’ll be prompted to securely add funds through Stripe before completing your donation.

Using a bank account?

If this is your first time using a bank account, you’ll be prompted to securely connect your account through Plaid before completing your donation.

Step 7: Review your donation

Before submitting your donation, you’ll have the opportunity to:

Review your donation amount
Confirm your company match (if applicable)
Add an optional donation note

Donating to a fundraiser, marathon, memorial, PTA/PTO, or similar campaign?

We strongly recommend adding a donation note so the organization knows how to attribute your donation correctly.

Step 8: Submit your donation

Once everything looks correct, click Donate and Pay.

That’s it! 🎉 Your donation has been submitted successfully.

What happens next?

After your donation is submitted:

You’ll receive a confirmation within Groundswell.
Your donation will appear in your Donation History.
The charity will receive your donation according to Groundswell’s distribution schedule.
