How To: Request a Match for a Donation Made Outside of Groundswell

If you made a donation outside of Groundswell (also called an offline donation), you can still request an employer match by uploading your receipt.

This is helpful for situations like:

  • Donating at a fundraising event
  • Writing a paper check
  • Giving directly on a nonprofit’s website

Before you start

Make sure you have a copy of your donation receipt ready.

Accepted file types: PDF, JPG, or PNG

Your receipt must include:

  • Your name
  • Donation date
  • Charity name
  • Donation amount

On the Groundswell Web App

Step 1.

  • From your home dashboard, locate the “Give” section
  • Click “Upload receipt” under “Donated outside of Groundswell?”

Step 2

  • In the Receiving charity field, search for and select the organization
  • Tip: Searching by EIN is the fastest and most accurate option

Step 3

  • Enter the donation amount you’d like matched

Step 4

  • Add the date your donation was made

Step 5

  • (Optional but recommended) Add a donation note
    • Required for fundraisers (e.g., marathons, PTA events, peer-to-peer campaigns)
    • This helps the nonprofit properly attribute your donation

Step 6

  • Upload your donation receipt

Step 7

  • Submit your request

On the Groundswell Mobile App

Step 1

  • From the home screen, tap “Upload receipt” (under the welcome section)

Step 2

  • Select the receiving charity
    • You can search by name or EIN

Step 3

  • Enter the donation amount

Step 4

  • Add the donation date

Step 5

  • (Optional but recommended) Add a donation note
    • Required for fundraiser-related matches

Step 6

  • Upload your donation receipt

Step 7

  • Submit your request

What happens next?

  • Your request will be reviewed by the Groundswell team
  • Once approved, your employer match will be sent to the nonprofit
  • Timing may vary depending on your company’s program
    • Some matches are sent quickly
    • Others are processed on a delay based on program settings
