How To: Preview Your Giving in Your Local Currency

If you’re located outside the United States, you can enable Local Currency Preview to view donation amounts, balances, and credits in your local currency while using Groundswell.

Please note: Donations made through Groundswell are processed in U.S. Dollars (USD). For donations to eligible non-U.S. charities, Groundswell partners with CAF America, which distributes funds to charities in the recipient country’s local currency whenever possible. The local currency displayed in Groundswell is provided as a convenience to help estimate the value of your donation and may differ slightly from the final amount received due to exchange rate fluctuations.

How to Enable Local Currency (Web)

Step 1

Click Account in the top-right corner of the page and select Account Information.

Step 2

Under Personal Information, update the Country field to the country where you’re located.

Step 3

Click Save.

Step 4

If your selected country supports Local Currency Preview, you’ll be prompted to enable it.

Select Enable Local Currency.

Not Ready Yet?

If you select No thanks, your account will continue displaying values in USD. You can enable Local Currency Preview later by updating your account settings again.

Where Will I See My Local Currency?

Once enabled, Groundswell will display an estimated value in your local currency alongside the USD amount throughout the platform.

You may see your local currency on:

Your Homepage balances
Donation Credits
Wallet balance
Donation amounts while giving
Offline donation match requests
Donation checkout and order summary

Understanding Exchange Rates

Groundswell displays local currency amounts using current exchange rates to help you estimate the value of your donations, balances, and credits.

Please keep in mind:

All donations and transactions in Groundswell are processed in U.S. Dollars (USD).
Local currency amounts shown throughout Groundswell are estimates for reference only and may change as exchange rates fluctuate.
For eligible donations to non-U.S. charities, CAF America converts and distributes grant funds in the recipient country’s local currency whenever possible.
The exchange rate used by CAF America or your bank or card provider may differ from the rate displayed in Groundswell.
Because exchange rates change regularly, the estimated local currency amount you see in Groundswell may vary slightly from the final amount received by the charity or charged by your financial institution.

Does changing my country change where my donation goes?

No. Updating your country only changes your account settings and allows you to preview values in your local currency when available.

Are donations charged in my local currency?

No. Donations are always processed in USD.

Why don’t my USD and local currency amounts always match exactly?

Exchange rates change throughout the day and may differ from the rate used by your financial institution. Local currency amounts are intended as an estimate and may vary slightly.
